GABRIELE BASILICO. Istanbul 05.010

16 September– 12 December 2010

Italcementi and Fondazione Stelline: Gabriele Basilico’s Istanbul.

The exhibition features 30 photographs, which have never been on public display before, by Gabriele Basilico, an internationally-recognized Italian photographer. These images of Istanbul were taken in 2005 on the occasion of the 9th International Istanbul Biennial and in 2010, the year in which Istanbul has been chosen as the European Capital of Culture.

The project documents the transformation of the urban landscape through photographs taken on two trips and various forays into the city, during which the artist explored historical areas and new districts that are constantly expanding and changing, showing the development dynamics of a megalopolis and crossroads of culture comprising past traditions and future expectations.

The contribution of Gabriele Basilico to the photographic documentation of contemporary urban landscapes is one of the most precious ones of the last 25 years: his attention focuses on the city intended as a physical entity in a perpetual movement and as a metaphor of the social aspects of our times.

The exhibition is promoted by Fondazione Stelline, Milan with the contribution of Italcementi. A new further discovery of a great master of photography and a reflection on the sense of inhabiting and living urban space and human space.
