#Concrete In Design”, the contest dedicated to all designers interested in research and experimentation with innovative cements.

Italcementi, a big name in the field of innovation for architectural materials, and Alessi, one of the leading Italian Design Factories Companies, join forces to launch the international “#Concrete In Design” contest dedicated to young designers interested in finding new forms of expression with i.design EFFIX, a very high performance material of the latest generation.

This material is a cement mortar developed by researchers at i.lab, the Italcementi Research and Innovation Center, to meet the decoration and style requirements of the design world. i.design EFFIX combines the durability of a cementitious material with the workability of a plastic material. It’s easy to work and very suitable for building small, thin, slender architectural elements with either smooth or machined surfaces. Plasticity and performance that allow a wide range of applications.

Through www.desall.com, a web platform for design with new products and digitization of the creative process, young designers will be asked to create a table centerpiece for outdoor use by using the new applications and potentials offered by i.design EFFIX.

The winner will be announced in December 2013 and in February 2014 s/he will participate in a workshop organized by LPWK Design Studio by Laura Polinoro, who has been working with Alessi for years for the organization of design workshops all around the world. This workshop will take place at i.lab, the Italcementi Research and Innovation Center of Bergamo, a building designed by the American architect Richard Meier that obtained the “Platinum” LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification, the highest energy and environmental certification for green building in the world. At i.lab the project sent during the contest will be examined in detail and improved to obtain a new product to be proposed for a future Alessi collection.Participation in the online contest is free and open to designers and creatives of all ages and nationalities. Participants may submit one or more projects, but only those projects posted on www.desall.com through the appropriate contest page will be accepted.
